What I actually do when working with a fussy eater

When parents come to me, it’s usually because mealtimes have become stressful, repetitive and… a bit draining.

So what do I actually do?

First - I take the pressure off.
Not just from the child, but from you as the parent.

Because fussy eating isn’t about “fixing” your child. It’s about understanding what’s going on and creating the right environment for them to feel comfortable around food.

I always start by getting the full picture.
What they’re eating, when they’re eating, and what mealtimes currently look like.

More often than not, it’s not just about the food - it’s the routine, the expectations, and the pressure around it.

Then we build from what your child can do.
Even if it feels like they only eat a handful of foods - those “safe foods” are our starting point, not the problem.

From there, I introduce gentle, low-pressure exposure.
No forcing. No bribing. No “just one bite”.

It might be:

  • a new food on the plate with no expectation

  • a familiar food presented differently

  • something simple like a dip to explore

Small changes - but they add up.

I also guide you on how food is offered, because your language, tone, and expectations at the table make a huge difference.

And most importantly - I remind you that progress isn’t linear.

Some days they’ll try something new.
Some days they won’t.

Both are completely normal.

The goal isn’t perfection.
It’s raising a child who feels confident, curious and relaxed around food.

If you’re currently in the thick of fussy eating and want some support, I offer bespoke packages tailored to your family - whether you need a full plan or just a bit of guidance to get things back on track.

You don’t have to figure it out alone 💛
